What every label should say

Make labels that last

Regular stickers peel off in the cold, and ink runs when containers sweat. Use freezer-safe labels with a fine permanent marker, or a label maker with laminated tape.

Organize by use, not by shape

Group items by what they are used for, and keep what you reach for most at the front. A foam-lined case or a rack keeps small containers upright and makes it obvious when something is missing.

Clear out regularly

Once a month, check dates and remove anything expired or unlabeled. If you cannot tell what something is, do not guess.
